Mutant Salon
in collaboration with Experimental Half Hour and Project Rage Queen
Attack Sustain Release Decay is a live FX video stream created in 2015 by Mutant Salon, LGBT performance art collective Project Rage Queen, and the television show platform Experimental Half Hour. The project uses a diagrammatic score to orient sound, movement, voice, and video amidst a ritual of preparatory beautification. Each transformative gesture undertaken by the performers triggers different sound effects and affects, highlighting the body as a ritual site of transformation. Attack Sustain Release Decay offers a collective vision of self care to expand parameters for synthesis: ATTACK (Identity), SUSTAIN (The Flame That Lights the Way Toward the Destruction of the Patriarchy), RELEASE (The Monster), DECAY (& Regenerate Our Bodies).
LA-based multi-disciplinary artist Young Joon Kwak (b. 1984 in Queens, NY) is the founder of Mutant Salon, a roving beauty salon/platform for experimental performance collaborations with their community of queer, trans, femme, POC artists and performers. Mutant Salon has taken place in various venues such as Commonwealth & Council, REDCAT, Honor Fraser Gallery, The Broad (LA), and Southern Exposure (San Francisco).
